"We are THE MARCH. We're trying to make the world a better, more tolerant place...through art."
Maybe you're back at school, or your kids are back at school - regardless, someone you know is certainly back at school. We're excited to announce that a number of talented artists are joining are roster for the 2013-14 school year, and we'll be featuring them all slowly but surely. As a kick-off, here's theater touring group THE MARCH.
THE MARCH Civil Rights Opera Project is a new American opera project that explores the personal and political circumstances surrounding the 1963 March on Washington. While the opera is developed, creator and librettist Alan Marshall has been producing theatrical based mass meetings that dramatize various episodes of civil rights movement during the long, hot summer of 1963. The Birmingham Children’s March is the fifth installment of these mass meetings and is now being presented, through Urban Gateways, in schools all over Chicago!
Now, get to know them a bit better! Check out a video of THE MARCH performing another of their mass meetings, "Prelude to a Dream", in DC last week in honor of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. View photos here, watch the Lincoln Memorial video below, and help us welcome them to our roster!
We're proud to work with groups like THE MARCH that use theater and the arts to move social justice and civil rights forward.
